Shoemaking class now available at 3rdward in Brooklyn, NY!

3rd Ward is an arts organization in Brooklyn, NY with over 100 different affordable class offerings every season in topics ranging from woodworking to web design.

They’ve just posted all of their new craft & jewelry making classes for the fall season on 3rdward.com! Their craft program is affiliated with Etsy and is taught almost entirely by Etsy members.

INTRO TO SHOEMAKING: MOCCASINS
Learn the basics of footwear design and construction. You’ll start the class with a basic sketch and end with your own pair of moccasins. You’ll use your own feet for sizing so you will create a pair of moccasins you can actually wear.

EXTRAORDINARY EMBROIDERY
Learn basic hand sewing and embroidery stitches, techniques to translate photographs and graphic images into embroideries, and how to hand-stitch text.

SCREEN PRINTING INTENSIVE
Screen Printing is a simple and effective way to produce an unlimited number of virtually identical prints onto practically any surface. Learn how to set up a screen printing “lab” and make prints in your very own home.

PAPERMAKING BY HAND
Participants will learn to create paper by hand. Progress toward a more sustainable lifestyle by creating beautiful handmade recycled paper.

INTRO TO UPHOLSTERY
Learn the basics of furniture upholstery. Complete a slip seat on the first day utilizing webbing or plywood construction. The following classes will cover piping, tufting, tacking, finishing techniques and pattern making, as students work on their own small project. Level: Beginner to Advanced.
