Fused Glass Terrain & 3D printed molds

Another project that I am working on at the moment… Little Colorado River Gorge in kiln formed glass.

DEM data is manipulated to create mold positives & 3D printed. Positives are printed vertically to eliminate banding (terracing effect). Result is finer detail as the toolhead follows the terrain while placing all the artifacts inside the print (spiderwebs etc from moves). A copy of the 3D print is created using refractory material. Containment system is fabricated around the refractory mold then filled will glass & fired in a kiln.

Dimensions: 160mm x 160mm x 20mm. Max terrain depth: 10mm
