There is a new regulation coming into force in the EU regarding electronic equipement recycling. Starting in 2006 manufacturers will be required to fund programs which allow consumers to return broken or old electronic equipement to stores or recycling centres to be sorted and their components recycled.
This is huge news for sustainable development, but I’ve only spotted a rogue article in Design Perspectives and found a webpage from the European government outlining the program.
Has anyone seen any planning of how the manufacturers intend to comply with this? Also estimated costs to the economy?
